News Analysis
Rattled Cong's dirty war against RSS Party exposed in mega scams and battered in polls
By Shyam Khosla
The Congress Party has no moral right to talk of fighting terrorism and communalism as its own track record on these counts is extremely blemished. Its divisive policies are aimed at creating tensions to corner Muslim votes. The party promoted terror in Punjab by patronising Bhindranwale and its senior leaders organised and led the mobs that massacred several thousand innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other places in the wake of Indira Gandhi’s assassination. Will the party do some introspection before leveling baseless allegations against patriotic organisations?
RAHUL Gandhi - the hit-and-run Guerilla - acutely embarrassed the nation and threw the Congress Party into utter confusion by telling the United States of America that Hindu radical groups were "more dangerous" for the country than the Indian Muslim support for Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) - the banned terrorist outfit - and cross-border terrorism. The whistle-blower website, WikiLeaks, revealed that the dynasty’s heir-apparent made this reprehensible statement in a conversation with the U S Ambassador Timothy Roemer on July 20, 2009 in response to the Ambassador’s query about LeT activities in India at a luncheon hosted by the Prime Minister.
WikiLeaks further revealed that Rahul admitted that there was evidence of support from Indian Muslim community (to cross-border terrorism) but went on to warn that the "bigger threat" was from "radicalised Hindus" that create religious tensions and political confrontations with the Muslim community and also mentioned the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s name in this connection. Rahul Gandhi’s gross indiscretion of discussing sensitive domestic issues with the ambassador and his totally unacceptable observation that radical Hindu groups were "more dangerous" than Pak-sponsored terrorism and the support it receives from sections of Indian Muslims have showed what he is - a shallow politician with little or no knowledge of Indian reality and its national ethos.
Anyone committing such blunders that legitimised what terror groups have been claiming all through that compromised country’s strategic security and wakened its war against terror should have been condemned and censured. Since the person responsible for damaging India’s national interests happened to be the heir-apparent, Congress spokespersons went into a spin to defend him. They first dismissed it as a BJP conspiracy - a virtual acknowledgment that the reported conversation had caused huge political damage to the party. However, they soon realised these were not off-the-cuff remarks by the highly-rated youth leader but were a part of the party’s long-standing strategy of Hindu baiting to fish for Muslim votes that had the approval of the Italy-born leader and had been relentlessly pursued by party’s infamous General Secretary, Digvijay Singh. So, they came out in hordes to defend the second most powerful man in the party. They interpreted, misinterpreted and added non-existing contexts to his observation to obfuscate the issue. In accordance with the maxim that offence is the best defence, the party launched a tirade against the RSS to deflect public attention from the faux pas and to carry forward the Congress Party’s dirty war against the patriotic organisation that it perceives to be a stumbling block against the anti-Hindu policies of the ruling dynasty.
Congress Party’s obsession with RSS is not new. The party has a history of resorting to Sangh bashing to cover up its blunders and acts that hurt national interests and social harmony. It is at the root of its malicious strategy of minorityism without doing anything substantial to bail out the community from the quagmire of illiteracy, backwardness and communal mind-set. They resort to needling RSS for imagined sins whenever the party is down either because of battering in elections or because of its Government’s involvement in mega scams. Rightly or wrongly, Congress Party believes that putting the RSS in the dock weakens the Bharatiya Janata Party that poses a serious threat to the ruling alliance. Recall Indira Gandhi’s baseless allegations against the RSS in mid-70s when the JP-led movement against corruption in high places had rattled the "Iron lady". The first thing she did after imposing emergency and arresting top opposition leaders was to impose a ban on the RSS on flimsy and laughable grounds and put behind the bars several thousand RSS swayamsevaks. The Government media, particularly All India Radio, spread canards, including the lie about recovering swords from RSS offices without disclosing these were wooden swords used for physical exercises. The Congress doesn’t seem to have learnt any lesson from the fact that its Fascist propaganda neither affected the RSS morale nor the public support for the nationalist organisation. Despite several bans, the RSS is growing socially as well as geographically.
The Congress Party’s hugely demoralising defeat in Bihar Assembly elections where its tally went down from nine to four despite vigorous campaign by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Dr Manmohan Singh and the fact that its Muslim vote bank dwindled so rattled the Congress leadership that Rahul Gandhi made that stupid statement comparing the patriotic Sangh with SIMI - the banned terrorist outfit now functioning as Indian Mujahdeen responsible for several terror attacks. Does the scion of the dynasty believes lathies that Sangh Swayamsevak sports for exercises and AK-47s used by terrorists are equally lethal? After Rahul’s deplorable conversation with American Ambasador, his mentor Digvijay Singh came out with the ridiculous statement accusing the RSS of pursuing the same vendetta against the Muslims as the Nazis did against the Jews. This vacuous claim attracted a prompt and strong rebuff from Israel. Responding to Digvijay Singh’s statement, Israel Embassy in Delhi said that no comparison could be made with the Nazi Holocaust in which six million Jews were massacred solely because they were Jews. If indeed there has been a genocide of Muslims in India, as claimed by Digvijay Singh, how is that Muslim population in India has gone up instead of going down?
That no one in the Congress took exception to these offending statements is a sad commentary on the rapid degradation of the Grand Old Party that was founded by an Englishman and is now headed by an Italy-born lady. As if to add salt to the injury, a resolution adopted by the party at its 83rd plenary session made the scary and baseless allegation that the nation’s polity was threatened by the ideologies of the BJP and the RSS. There can be nothing farther from truth than this outlandish claim. It is not the Indian polity but the future of the degenerated Congress Party that is threatened by the nationalist ideology of the RSS and the BJP.
Not surprisingly, Rahul Gandhi’s objectionable conversation with the American Ambassador and the smear campaign against the RSS launched by the Congress Party has sparked a political storm in the season of bitter confrontation between the ruling alliance and the BJP. Spokesmen of the BJP dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s remarks as a product of a "sick mind" and observed that his gross ignorance about the reality of India was manifest in his understanding that a fringe group was more dangerous than the Pakistan-sponsored terrorism that is playing havoc with the country’s security and peace. RSS, as usual, responded soberly. It described the Congress leaders’ diatribe against the Sangh was an effort by the ruling party to divert public attention from the controversies it is involved in - an illusion to mega scams. RSS’ sober and dignified response to abusive attacks from the Congress shouldn’t be perceived as its weakness. The Sangh’s confidence in its mass base and public support is commendable. It is confident of its strength and mass base. The Sangh is in constant conversation with its cadres and masses at the grass root level. In coming weeks, it proposes to launch a massive nation-wide Jan Sampark Abhiyan to expose Congress canards and to educate the masses on the Ramjanmbhoomi and Kashmir issues. However, a more robust refutation of the false allegations would have been in order.
