Kesharia Productions Private Limited, a Delhi based company, has started the production of a TV serial, on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The muhurat of the 70-episode serial, Matribhoomi, was conducted on August 8 in Delhi in the presence of RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri K.S. Sudarshan, Leader of Opposition Shri L.K. Advani, NDA convenor Shri George Fernandes, VHP president Shri Ashok Singhal, BJP president Shri Rajnath Singh and dozens of national dignitaries. The telecast of the serial is expected to begin in November on a national TV channel. Shri Vinay Apte is directing the serial.

According to Shri Rajesh Lamba, a partner in the firm, the serial will also focus on Shri Ramjanmabhoomi movement, imposition of Emergency in 1975, formation of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the work and sacrifice by RSS swayamsevaks during the attacks by Pakistan and China. It will also highlight the relief activities carried out by swayamsevaks during the recent tsunami and earthquake in Gujarat. The serial will focus on the service activities of the swayamsevaks in Vanvasi areas and also the life of a Sangh Pracharak. There will be episodes on attack by Kabalies on Kashmir, role of swayamsevaks during the attack and the efforts of RSS to save Kashmir including protection to Maharaja Hari Singh. The meeting of Shri Guruji with Maharaja Hari Singh to persuade him to merge Kashmir into India, protection of Hindus during the riots of 1946, '47 and '48 and the sacrifice by swayamsevaks at that time will also be included.

Speaking at the muhurat in Delhi, Shri K.S. Sudarshan said various wrong notions regarding the freedom struggle were developed in the country and several events were not allowed to come out in the public. He said during the nineties when popular serials like Ramayana and Mahabharata were being telecast on television, they left a very positive effect on people. He said the wrong notions were deliberately developed by the vested interests. ?I hope Matribhoomi serial will present the facts in right perspective so that people can see the truth with their eyes,? he said.

Shri L.K. Advani described RSS as the biggest mass movement of the 20st century. He said the founder of RSS Dr Hedgewar fulfilled the man-making aspiration of Swami Vivekanada. He said he saw so many serials against the RSS, but did not ever listen about any such serial. He hoped that the serial would help people understanding the RSS in right perspective.

Shri Ashok Singhal, president of VHP said the formation of RSS was the necessity of the time. He said India is facing dangers from Maoists, Islamic forces and the Church. BJP president Shri Rajnath Singh hoped that the serial would instill the values of nationality into the new generation. Shri George Fernandes said that he was with the Sangh and will always be with the Sangh. Earlier, speaking on the occasion Shri Mohan Singh Ahaluwalia, convenor of the function, said the serial would provide an extensive picture of the Sangh work to the public. He said the serial would break various wrong notions about the RSS. Scores of leading personalities belonging to RSS, BJP and various other organisations were present on the occasion.
