BJP Human Rights Cell presents memorandum to President of India Protect human rights of Hindus in Pakistan (FOC) TAKING the issue of human rights violations of minorities in Pakistan seriously the BJP National Human Right Cell demanded the Government of Pakistan to immediately take action against all the people involved in torturing minorities there and issue stern warning of heavy penalties and punishment if such violations are repeated in future. The BJP also demanded adequate security to the members of minority communities. In a memorandum submitted to President of India Smt Pratibha Devisingh Patil and also the High Commissioner of Pakistan in New Delhi on May 3 the Cell demanded adequate compensation to the victims in Pakistan for their sufferings. Demanding the United Nations Organisation to come forward for improving the condition of the victims in Pakistan, the Cell condemned the Government of India for keeping mum on atrocities faced by the Hindu minorities in Pakistan. Talking to medipersons in New Delhi after submitting the memorandum national convener of the BJP Human Rights Cell Shri Sudhir Agrawal said the freedom of religion is a fundamental human right and it is enshrined in the Article 18 of the the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a declaration adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. He strongly condemned the Government of Pakistan for failing to protect the minorities there. It is to be noted that Pakistan’s leading Human Rights Association has voiced concern over the forced conversions of members of minority and vulnerable communities. The incident was mentioned in Pakistan’s Human Rights Commission’s report for 2010. The report described forced conversions as “one of the biggest concerns for minority and vulnerable communities in Pakistan for many years”. The Standing Committee on Minorities Affairs of the Senate or Upper House of Parliament had also expressed concern over the abduction and forcible conversion of Hindu girls in Sindh province in October last year and demanded concrete measures to stop such conversions. Shri Avinash Rai Khanna, MP, who led the BJP delegation, stressed on the paragraph of a Pakistani report stating that a parliamentarian had informed the Senate’s Standing Committee on Minorities Affairs in October last year that 500 Hindu families from Balochistan province had migrated to India because of threats to their lives and security. “Several members of the Hindu community became victims of abduction and violence in Baluchistan, where they had lived in “relative safety for generations”, the report said. The report also warned that “worse time is in store”. Since Pakistan is home to about 3.5 million Hindus, who make-up about two per cent of the population of the Muslim-majority country of some 180 million, these atrocities and violations become serious matter. Dr Mehdi Hassan, Chairman of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has been reported saying that most of the Human Rights violations in Pakistan are being done by government functionaries, including the police. If it is so then who will ensure law being implemented, asked Shri Sudhir Agrawal.
